Hypocrisy (band)
Hypocrisy is a Swedish death metal band formed in 1991 in Ludvika. The band was founded by Peter Tägtgren, who remains the sole constant member and primary songwriter. Hypocrisy is known for its distinctive blend of melodic death metal, often incorporating elements of thrash metal and occasionally delving into more atmospheric and experimental sounds.
Initially, Hypocrisy's lyrical themes focused on anti-Christian and satanic topics, aligning with the prevalent death metal tropes of the early 1990s. However, the band's lyrical content shifted over time, increasingly exploring themes of alien abduction, paranormal experiences, and philosophical concepts. This transition coincided with a stylistic evolution towards a more melodic and streamlined sound.
Peter Tägtgren's involvement extends beyond his role in Hypocrisy. He is also the owner of The Abyss Studio, a renowned recording studio in Sweden where numerous influential metal albums have been produced. Furthermore, he is the mastermind behind the industrial metal project Pain, showcasing his versatility as a musician and producer.
Hypocrisy has released numerous studio albums throughout its career, including notable works such as Penetralia (1992), Osculum Obscenum (1993), The Fourth Dimension (1994), Abducted (1996), Hypocrisy Destroys Wacken (1999, live), The Arrival (2004), and Worship (2021). The band has toured extensively worldwide and maintained a significant presence in the death metal scene for over three decades.
