Traralgon
Traralgon is a major regional city located in the Latrobe Valley of Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. Situated approximately 160 kilometres (99 miles) east of Melbourne, it is the largest city in the Latrobe City local government area.
Historically, Traralgon's economy was heavily reliant on coal mining and power generation, industries which remain significant employers in the region. Agriculture, particularly dairy farming, beef cattle and timber production, also plays a key role. In recent years, efforts have been made to diversify the local economy, with a focus on manufacturing, retail, and services.
The city serves as a regional centre for education, health, and commerce, providing services to a large surrounding area. Educational institutions include Federation University Australia's Gippsland campus and a number of secondary and primary schools. Latrobe Regional Hospital, located in Traralgon, is the major health provider for the region.
Traralgon offers a range of recreational facilities, including parks, sporting grounds, and cultural venues. Key attractions include Victory Park, a large public park in the city centre, and the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre. The city is also a gateway to the Strzelecki Ranges and other natural attractions in the Gippsland region.
The city is accessible by road and rail. The Princes Highway passes through Traralgon, connecting it to Melbourne and other major towns in Gippsland. Traralgon railway station is served by V/Line trains on the Traralgon line, providing regular services to Melbourne.
