Silvinho (footballer, born 1974)

Silvinho, (born Sylvio Mendes Campos Júnior on April 12, 1974) is a Brazilian former professional footballer and current football manager.

Playing Career:

Silvinho played primarily as a left-back and was known for his attacking contributions, crossing ability, and free-kick expertise. He began his professional career in Brazil with Corinthians, winning the Copa do Brasil in 1995 and the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in 1998.

In 1999, Silvinho moved to Europe, joining Arsenal in the English Premier League. He spent two seasons with the Gunners, becoming a popular figure with the fans.

He then moved to Celta Vigo in Spain, where he played for three seasons. His performances at Celta Vigo earned him a transfer to FC Barcelona in 2004.

At Barcelona, Silvinho was part of a highly successful team, winning three La Liga titles (2004-05, 2005-06, 2008-09) and two UEFA Champions League titles (2005-06, 2008-09). He often played as backup to other left-backs, but was a valuable and reliable member of the squad.

He finished his playing career with Manchester City in the English Premier League, playing for one season before retiring in 2010.

International Career:

Silvinho represented Brazil at the international level, earning a handful of caps. He was part of the Brazilian squad that won the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.

Managerial Career:

Following his retirement from playing, Silvinho transitioned into coaching. He has held various assistant coaching roles, including stints with the Brazilian national team, Corinthians, Inter Milan, and Lyon. He served as an assistant under Roberto Mancini at Inter Milan.

In 2019, Silvinho was appointed as the head coach of the Albania national football team. He was relieved of his duties in 2023. In 2023 he became the head coach of the Albania national football team again, leading them to qualify for UEFA Euro 2024.
