Asgardians (Marvel Comics)
Asgardians are a fictional race of humanoid beings appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, primarily based on the Norse mythological figures of Asgard. They are inhabitants of Asgard, one of the Nine Realms, a dimension often depicted as floating above the Earth (Midgard).
Asgardians are significantly longer-lived and physically superior to humans. Their enhanced physiology grants them superhuman strength, stamina, durability, agility, and reflexes. While they are not immortal, they age at a considerably slower rate than humans. They also possess a resistance to conventional diseases and toxins.
Asgardian society is traditionally structured around a monarchy, with the Allfather, such as Odin, ruling from the throne of Asgard. Their culture is steeped in warrior traditions, valor, and honor. Magic and mystical abilities are also common among Asgardians, particularly among members of the royal family and skilled sorcerers.
Notable Asgardians include Thor, the God of Thunder; Odin, the Allfather; Loki, the God of Mischief; Sif, a warrior; Balder the Brave; and Heimdall, the all-seeing guardian of the Bifrost.
The Asgardians have frequently interacted with Earth and its inhabitants throughout history, sometimes as benevolent protectors and other times as figures of conflict. They have played a significant role in numerous Marvel Comics storylines, often involving threats to both Asgard and Earth. Their depiction in the Marvel Universe blends elements of Norse mythology with science fiction concepts. The Asgardian homeworld and its inhabitants have been destroyed and rebuilt on several occasions within the comic book continuity.
