Alexander Gunn (politician)
Alexander Gunn (born July 21, 1841, Wick, Caithness, Scotland; died October 23, 1915, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) was a Canadian politician. He served as a Liberal Member of Parliament representing the riding of Ontario North from 1896 to 1904.
Gunn received his education at the public schools in Wick and then emigrated to Canada in 1862. He engaged in a successful business career as a merchant in Beaverton, Ontario. He also served as a reeve for the local municipality.
In the 1896 federal election, Gunn successfully contested the riding of Ontario North for the Liberal Party. He was re-elected in the 1900 federal election. During his time in Parliament, he was a supporter of Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier and his Liberal government. He did not seek re-election in the 1904 federal election.
Beyond his political career, Gunn was involved in various community activities. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and actively supported local charitable organizations. He is buried in Beaverton, Ontario.
