Rua (Moimenta da Beira)
Rua is a freguesia (civil parish) located in the municipality of Moimenta da Beira, in the district of Viseu, Portugal. A freguesia is the smallest administratively defined local area unit in Portugal. Rua is situated within the broader geographical region of the Douro Demarcated Region.
The freguesia of Rua encompasses a specific geographical area and includes smaller settlements and villages within its boundaries. Its population density and size are typically smaller than that of the município (municipality) to which it belongs.
Historically, Rua, like many other freguesias in Portugal, has been primarily an agricultural region, with viticulture (grape growing) being a significant economic activity due to its location within the Douro region, famous for Port wine production.
Local landmarks, traditions, and cultural events specific to Rua contribute to its distinct identity within the Moimenta da Beira municipality. The patron saint of the parish and annual religious festivals are key aspects of local culture.
