BMW G450X

The BMW G450X was a lightweight, competition-oriented enduro motorcycle produced by BMW Motorrad from 2008 to 2010. It represented BMW's first serious attempt at competing in the off-road racing market since the discontinuation of earlier off-road models like the R80GS and R100GS PD.

The G450X was notable for several innovative design features aimed at reducing weight and improving handling. These included a co-axial swingarm pivot point, which aligned the swingarm pivot with the output shaft of the engine, helping to maintain constant chain tension throughout the suspension travel. The bike also featured a single-cylinder, four-stroke engine developed in collaboration with Kymco, and a fuel tank positioned under the seat to lower the center of gravity.

Despite its advanced design and competitive intent, the G450X faced challenges in terms of reliability and market acceptance. Production ceased after a relatively short run, and it was ultimately replaced by the Husqvarna range following BMW's acquisition of Husqvarna Motorcycles. While it was not a commercial success, the G450X is remembered as a technologically interesting motorcycle that pushed the boundaries of enduro bike design.
