Richard French (American politician)

Richard French (born c. 1783, died March 26, 1854) was a U.S. Representative from Kentucky.

Born in Alexandria, Virginia, French moved to Kentucky at a young age. He studied law and was admitted to the bar, commencing practice in Mount Sterling, Kentucky.

He served as a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1808 to 1809. He was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Fifteenth Congress (March 4, 1817 – March 3, 1819). He then served as a member of the Kentucky Senate from 1827 to 1831. He was appointed receiver of public moneys at the land office in Mount Sterling, Kentucky, a position he held for several years. He later engaged in agricultural pursuits. French died in Mount Sterling, Kentucky, on March 26, 1854, and was interred in the Machpelah Cemetery.
