Kidderminster (UK Parliament constituency)

Kidderminster is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Mark Garnier of the Conservative Party.

Boundaries:

The constituency covers the town of Kidderminster in Worcestershire, as well as surrounding villages and rural areas. Specifically, it includes the electoral wards of Aggborough and Spennells, Areley Kings, Bewdley East, Bewdley West, Broadwaters, Cookley, Franche, Lickhill, Mitton, Offmore and Comberton, and Wribbenhall. It also contains part of the Wyre Forest district.

History:

The Kidderminster constituency was created in 1950, replacing the former Bewdley constituency. The seat has been held by a variety of parties throughout its history, including the Conservative Party, the Labour Party and Independent candidates. The fluctuating political allegiance of the constituency has often made it a marginal seat. Notably, in 1997, the seat was won by Dr Richard Taylor representing Independent Kidderminster Hospital and Health Concern (Health Concern) on a platform dedicated to saving Kidderminster Hospital. He held the seat until 2010.
