Joan Rice
Joan Rice (1930-1997) was a British film actress. Born in Nottingham, England, Rice is best known for her roles in British films of the 1950s and early 1960s.
Her career began with small parts in the late 1940s. She gained wider recognition in the 1951 Ealing Studios film The Lavender Hill Mob, though her role was relatively minor. She subsequently appeared in several notable films, including One Wild Oat (1951), His Majesty O'Keefe (1954), Police Dog (1955), The Horror of Frankenstein (1970), and Operation Bullshine (1959). Rice also worked in television, appearing in series such as The Adventures of Robin Hood.
While she achieved a degree of fame, Rice's career trajectory was affected by personal challenges, including struggles with alcoholism and mental health. She faced periods of hardship and instability, and her acting opportunities diminished over time. She died in Maidenhead, Berkshire in 1997. Although not a major star, she remains remembered for her contributions to British cinema during its post-war period.
