Cool World (NES video game)

Cool World is a platform video game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1993. It is based on the live-action/animated film Cool World of the same name, starring Kim Basinger, Gabriel Byrne, and Brad Pitt. The game was developed by Graftgold and published by Ocean Software.

In Cool World, the player controls Jack Deebs, a cartoonist who gets sucked into his own creation, the "Cool World." He must navigate various platforming levels filled with obstacles and enemies, including "doodles" and other cartoonish creatures. The primary objective is to rescue his "noidette," Jennifer, who has been kidnapped by Holli Would, the seductive and dangerous femme fatale from the film.

Gameplay involves standard platforming elements such as jumping, running, and shooting projectiles. Jack can collect power-ups to enhance his abilities and defeat enemies. The game is known for its high difficulty level, often attributed to awkward controls, unpredictable enemy behavior, and a lack of clear direction.

Reception for Cool World on the NES was overwhelmingly negative. Critics cited poor graphics, frustrating gameplay, and a weak connection to the source material as major flaws.
