Steve Whitaker (baseball)
Stephen Michael Whitaker (born July 15, 1959) is a former professional baseball player. He was a second baseman in Major League Baseball, playing primarily for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Montreal Expos.
Whitaker was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 10th round of the 1977 Major League Baseball draft. He made his major league debut with the Pirates on July 25, 1983. Whitaker played for the Pirates from 1983 to 1986. He was then traded to the Montreal Expos, where he played from 1986 to 1988.
While not a star, Whitaker was known as a steady, reliable player, capable of playing multiple positions and contributing to the team in a variety of ways. His career was relatively short, spanning only six seasons in the majors. After his playing career, Whitaker became involved in coaching and scouting.
His best season statistically was arguably 1985 with Pittsburgh, where he played in 105 games.
