D3 motorway (Czech Republic)

The D3 motorway (Czech: Dálnice D3) is a partially completed motorway in the Czech Republic. It runs from Prague via Tábor and České Budějovice towards the Austrian border near Dolní Dvořiště, where it will connect to the Austrian Mühlviertler Schnellstraße S10.

Currently, significant sections are open and in operation, providing a faster connection between Prague and South Bohemia. However, some key stretches remain under construction or are planned. The construction of the D3 has faced challenges due to environmental concerns, difficult terrain, and land acquisition processes, leading to delays and modifications in the route.

The D3 is important for both domestic and international traffic. It facilitates trade and tourism between the Czech Republic and Austria and is a crucial component of the European route E55. Upon completion, it will significantly reduce travel times between Prague and southern regions of the country, as well as providing a more direct route to Linz and other destinations in Austria. The planned connection to the S10 will improve connectivity to Upper Austria and beyond. The project is being implemented in phases, with ongoing efforts to complete the remaining sections of the motorway.
