FICORA

FICORA (Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority) was the former national regulatory authority for communications in Finland. Its responsibilities included regulating radio and telecommunications, as well as ensuring network security and data protection in the communications sector. FICORA was responsible for assigning radio frequencies, granting operating licenses, and supervising compliance with relevant regulations. The authority also addressed issues related to cybersecurity and data privacy within the communications industry.

FICORA ceased to exist as an independent entity on January 1, 2017, when it merged with the Finnish Transport Agency (Trafi) to form the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency, known as Traficom (Liikenne- ja viestintävirasto). Traficom now handles the responsibilities previously held by both FICORA and Trafi. The merger aimed to streamline regulatory processes within the transport and communications sectors. Thus, while the name FICORA no longer represents an active organization, its legacy is continued by Traficom.
