The Scribbler (film)

The Scribbler is a 2014 American science fiction thriller film directed by John Suits and starring Katie Cassidy, Garret Dillahunt, Eliza Dushku, Gina Gershon, Michael Imperioli, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Sasha Grey. It is based on the 2006 graphic novel of the same name by Daniel Schaffer, who also co-wrote the screenplay.

The film centers on Suki (played by Cassidy), a young woman with dissociative identity disorder (DID) undergoing an experimental treatment called "The Siamese Burn" at a state-run mental institution. The treatment is designed to eliminate her multiple personalities, one by one, using a machine that merges the identities. However, as Suki undergoes the procedure, the personalities begin to disappear permanently, and she suspects that someone inside the institution is tampering with the machine and killing them off.

As Suki delves deeper into the mystery, she begins to question her own reality and struggles to distinguish between her remaining personalities. She also suspects that the institution's staff, including Dr. Silkworth (Dillahunt) and Nurse Cleo (Gershon), may be involved in a conspiracy. Her investigation is complicated by her fragmented memories and the potential for dangerous consequences if she exposes the truth. The film explores themes of identity, mental illness, government control, and the ethics of medical experimentation.
