Orania taiwana
Orania taiwana is a species of palm tree endemic to Taiwan. It is a relatively small palm, typically reaching heights of 4-8 meters. It is characterized by its solitary trunk, ringed with leaf scars, and its crown of arching, pinnate (feather-like) leaves. The leaflets are lanceolate in shape and have a glossy green color.
The inflorescences emerge from below the crown of leaves and are branched, bearing numerous small, cream-colored flowers. The fruits are small, ovoid, and turn red when ripe.
Orania taiwana is found in lowland rainforests and often grows near streams or other moist areas. It is considered to be a vulnerable species due to habitat loss and over-collection. Conservation efforts are underway to protect this unique palm.
