Southwest Limited (Milwaukee Road train)
The Southwest Limited was a passenger train operated by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (also known as the Milwaukee Road). It ran between Chicago and Kansas City, Missouri. The train was introduced in 1952, providing a connection to the Southwest through Kansas City. It was known for its streamlined equipment and relatively fast service.
The Southwest Limited offered coach and sleeping car accommodations. Dining car service was also available. The train's consist often included Milwaukee Road's distinctive Skytop Lounge cars on the rear, providing passengers with panoramic views.
The Southwest Limited was discontinued in 1968 as part of the general decline in passenger rail service in the United States. Factors contributing to its demise included competition from airlines and automobiles, as well as the Milwaukee Road's financial difficulties.
