Midlands East (European Parliament constituency)
Midlands East was a constituency of the European Parliament representing part of the Republic of Ireland. It was one of the three constituencies used to elect Irish Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) under the system in place prior to the 2020 European Parliament election. The constituency comprised the counties of Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Tipperary, and Wexford.
The constituency was abolished following the 2019 review of Irish European Parliament constituencies, which reduced the number of constituencies from three to three, though their boundaries and number of MEPs assigned changed. The area previously covered by Midlands East was redistributed amongst the newly defined constituencies of Midlands-North-West and Dublin.
The number of MEPs elected from Midlands East varied over the years, reflecting changes in the overall allocation of Irish seats in the European Parliament.
Further information regarding the specific MEPs elected from this constituency over the years, and the details of specific elections, can be found in resources relating to Irish European Parliament elections, such as those held by the Irish Electoral Commission or academic archives of Irish political history.
