Memorial Bridge (Bangkok)
The Memorial Bridge (สะพานพระพุทธยอดฟ้า, Saphan Phut), also known as Phra Phutta Yodfa Bridge, is a drawbridge in Bangkok, Thailand, that spans the Chao Phraya River. It connects Phra Nakhon and Thonburi districts.
The bridge was constructed to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the founding of Bangkok and the reign of King Rama I (Phra Phuttha Yodfa Chulalok). It was officially opened on April 6, 1932, by King Prajadhipok (Rama VII).
The Memorial Bridge is a significant historical landmark and serves as a vital transportation link in the city. It is notable for its lifting mechanism, though it is no longer regularly used for river traffic. The area surrounding the bridge is a bustling commercial and transportation hub, featuring markets, shops, and transportation terminals.
