Bahadur (comics)
Bahadur was an Indian comic book series created by Aabid Surti for Indrajal Comics in 1976. The comic follows the adventures of Bahadur, a tall and muscular tribal man from the fictional village of Chandigarh in the jungles of Assam, India. He dedicates his life to fighting injustice and protecting the innocent, often confronting corrupt landlords, smugglers, and dacoits.
Bahadur's strength and agility are his primary weapons. He is depicted as a skilled fighter and strategist, using his knowledge of the jungle to his advantage. Unlike many other superheroes, Bahadur possesses no supernatural powers. His appeal lies in his grounded nature, relatable motivations, and his representation of a strong, independent tribal figure.
The supporting cast of Bahadur includes Bela, his girlfriend and a fellow tribal member, and Inspector Vikram, a police officer who often collaborates with Bahadur in his fight against crime. The series often highlights social issues prevalent in rural India, such as exploitation of tribal communities, corruption, and environmental degradation.
Indrajal Comics was a popular Indian comic book publisher, and Bahadur was one of its most successful and enduring titles, running for several years. The comic was known for its action-packed storylines and realistic depictions of Indian settings. It contributed to the landscape of Indian comics by introducing a hero rooted in Indian culture and addressing local issues, rather than merely replicating western superhero tropes. Bahadur's adventures appealed to a wide readership, solidifying his place as a prominent character in the history of Indian comics.
