Cut the Cake (horse)

Cut the Cake was an American Thoroughbred racehorse, foaled in 1951. Bred by Mrs. Jesse M. G. Thompson and owned by Ada L. Rice, Cut the Cake was known primarily for his performances as a two-year-old and three-year-old.

While he did not win any of the American Triple Crown races, he was a prominent competitor in those events. In the 1954 Kentucky Derby, he finished second to Determine. He also ran in the Preakness Stakes, where he did not place.

Cut the Cake was trained by Moody Jolley. He raced consistently throughout his career, earning a reputation as a hard-trying and game competitor. His pedigree included notable sires and dams of the time, contributing to his racing talent.

After retiring from racing, Cut the Cake was retired to stud. While he sired some winners, he did not achieve the same level of success as a sire that he had as a racehorse. His legacy remains primarily as a prominent racehorse of the mid-1950s, particularly noted for his near-miss in the Kentucky Derby.
