Amos 5

Amos 5 was an Israeli communications satellite built by Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI). It was launched on December 11, 2011, from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan aboard a Proton-M rocket. It was positioned in geostationary orbit at 17° East longitude.

The satellite provided a range of communication services to customers in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, including direct-to-home (DTH) television, broadband internet, and VSAT services. It carried both Ku-band and C-band transponders.

Amos 5 experienced a major anomaly on November 21, 2015, resulting in a complete loss of communication. Attempts to re-establish contact with the satellite were unsuccessful, and it was declared a total loss. The cause of the failure was not officially determined, although speculation centered around a possible power system malfunction. The loss of Amos 5 had significant impact on its customers who relied on its services, leading to disruption and the need for alternative solutions.
