HMS Malabar (1866)

HMS Malabar was a British Royal Navy troopship launched in 1866. She served primarily in transporting troops and personnel throughout the British Empire, particularly to and from India.

Malabar was a steam-powered iron-hulled vessel. She was built by J. Elder & Co. of Govan, Glasgow. As a troopship, Malabar was designed to accommodate a large number of personnel in relatively comfortable conditions for extended voyages.

During her service life, Malabar was involved in routine troop movements and deployments, supporting British military and administrative presence in various parts of the world. She participated in several notable events, including the transportation of troops during colonial conflicts and crises.

Malabar was eventually decommissioned and sold out of service, her role as a troopship superseded by newer and more efficient vessels. Her career is representative of the vital role troopships played in maintaining the British Empire and projecting its power globally during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Details of specific voyages, commanders, and significant incidents involving HMS Malabar can be found in historical naval records and archives.
