Betanzos

Betanzos is a municipality in the province of A Coruña, in the autonomous community of Galicia, Spain. It is one of the historical capitals of the province, alongside A Coruña.

Geography: Betanzos is situated at the head of the Betanzos estuary, formed by the Mandeo and Mendo rivers. The town is located approximately 24 kilometers (15 miles) south of A Coruña. Its geography is characterized by rolling hills and the river valleys that lead to the estuary.

History: Betanzos boasts a rich history dating back to pre-Roman times. Roman presence is evidenced by archaeological findings. In the Middle Ages, it became an important trading center and a royal city, receiving privileges and royal protection. It was one of the seven original capitals of the Kingdom of Galicia. The town's historical importance is reflected in its well-preserved medieval architecture.
