Henry IX (TV series)
Henry IX is a British television sitcom that aired on Gold from 2017 to 2018. Created and written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, the series starred Charles Edwards as Henry, a middle-aged man who unexpectedly inherits the title of King of the United Kingdom upon the accidental death of his entire family ahead of him in the line of succession.
The series focuses on Henry’s struggles to adapt to his new life as monarch, balancing the demands of royal duty with his ordinary desires and personal relationships. He is supported (and often exasperated) by his wife, Serena, played by Sally Phillips. The humor stems from the clash between Henry’s down-to-earth personality and the absurd traditions and protocols of the royal family and the monarchy.
Other recurring characters include Princess Charlotte, Henry's outspoken sister, played by Kara Tointon; Prince Rupert, Henry's eccentric brother; and various members of the royal household staff.
Henry IX ran for two series, each consisting of six episodes. The first series premiered in January 2017, and the second in May 2018.
