Giovanni Cornaro (cardinal)

Giovanni Cornaro (1720 – 1789) was an Italian Roman Catholic cardinal.

Born in Venice, Giovanni Cornaro belonged to a prominent Venetian noble family, the Cornaro, which had produced several Doges of Venice and numerous other notable figures. He pursued a career in the Church, eventually rising to the rank of Cardinal.

Cornaro was appointed a cardinal deacon by Pope Clement XIII in the consistory of November 23, 1761. He was assigned the titular church of San Cesareo in Palatio. Later, he opted for the diaconate of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in 1763, and then for the diaconate of Sant'Agata alla Suburra in 1773.

He participated in the papal conclaves of 1769, which elected Pope Clement XIV, and 1774–1775, which elected Pope Pius VI.

Cornaro held various positions within the Papal Curia. Details regarding his specific responsibilities and contributions are somewhat limited, but his elevation to the cardinalate indicates a significant role in the affairs of the Church during his time.

He died in Venice in 1789.
