Pordoi Pass
The Pordoi Pass (Italian: Passo Pordoi, Ladin: Jouf de Pordoi) is a high mountain pass in the Dolomites of northern Italy. It connects Arabba (Livinallongo del Col di Lana) with Canazei (Fascia Valley). It is the second highest paved road pass in the Dolomites, after the Sella Pass.
The pass is located between the Sella group to the north and the Marmolada group to the south. It is a popular tourist destination, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. It is easily accessible by car, motorcycle, or bicycle, and is a key part of the Sella Ronda circuit, a loop that connects four Dolomite passes: Pordoi, Sella, Gardena, and Campolongo.
The road over the Pordoi Pass was built during World War I for military purposes. The summit is marked by several hotels, restaurants, and shops, as well as a monument to Fausto Coppi, a famous Italian cyclist who frequently raced over the pass. A cable car runs from the pass to Sass Pordoi, offering panoramic views of the Dolomites. The pass is typically open from late spring to late autumn, depending on snow conditions.
