1990s (band)
1990s were a Scottish indie rock band formed in Glasgow in 2005. The band's name is a direct reference to the decade of the 1990s. Their sound was characterized by angular guitars, catchy melodies, and often sardonic or observational lyrics.
The original lineup consisted of Jackie McKeown (vocals, guitar), John McKeown (guitar, backing vocals), Dino Bardot (bass), and Michael McGaughrin (drums).
1990s gained significant attention after signing with Rough Trade Records and released their debut album, Cookies, in 2007. Cookies received positive reviews, praised for its energetic and infectious indie pop sound. Standout tracks included "You're Supposed to Be My Friend" and "See You at the Bar."
Following the release of Cookies, 1990s toured extensively, playing festivals and supporting other bands. They became known for their energetic live performances.
In 2009, the band released their second album, Kicks, also on Rough Trade Records. Kicks explored similar sonic territory to Cookies but with a slightly more polished production.
After the release of Kicks, the band went on hiatus. Members pursued other musical projects. Jackie McKeown formed the band The New Fag Ends. Dino Bardot later joined the band Franz Ferdinand.
1990s' music remains influential in the indie rock scene, remembered for its infectious energy and sharp songwriting. Though no longer actively performing, their albums continue to be enjoyed by fans.
