Yatomi

Yatomi (弥富市, Yatomi-shi) is a city located in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Situated in the southwestern part of the prefecture, it borders the prefectures of Mie and Gifu.

Geography: Yatomi is largely flat and lies in the Nōbi Plain. The city is known for its network of canals and rivers, contributing to its agricultural production, particularly rice cultivation. The Kiso River and the Nagara River flow nearby.

History: Yatomi was established as a town in 1906. It was elevated to city status on April 1, 2006, through the merger of the former town of Yatomi with the village of Jūshiyama.

Economy: Agriculture, particularly rice farming and horticulture, is a significant part of Yatomi's economy. Light manufacturing also contributes to the local economy. Due to its location near Nagoya, some residents commute to the larger city for work.

Culture: Yatomi is known for its distinctive local festivals and traditions. One notable aspect is the cultivation of goldfish, which is a significant industry in the area and reflected in local culture.
