Bob Kiley

Bob Kiley (1935 - 2016) was an American public transport administrator known for his leadership roles in major transit systems in both London and New York City.

Kiley served as Chairman and Chief Executive of London Regional Transport (LRT), the predecessor to Transport for London (TfL), from 1983 to 1990. During his tenure, he focused on improving the reliability and efficiency of the London Underground.

He later became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in New York City from 2000 to 2001, a particularly challenging period following the September 11th terrorist attacks. He oversaw the agency's response to the crisis and the continued operation of the city's transit network.

Prior to his roles in London and New York, Kiley had a career in the United States military and also worked in the private sector. He was known for his no-nonsense management style and his commitment to public service. He was often referred to as "Sir Bob" after being knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to London's transport system.
