1st Engineer Regiment (Jamaica)

The 1st Engineer Regiment is a combat support unit of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF). It provides engineering support to the JDF and, in times of national emergency or disaster, to the civilian population of Jamaica.

The regiment's functions include:

• Construction and Infrastructure: Building and maintaining roads, bridges, buildings, and other essential infrastructure for the JDF and, in disaster relief situations, for the civilian community.

• Demolitions and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD): Conducting controlled demolitions for construction and training purposes, as well as identifying, neutralizing, and disposing of unexploded ordnance.

• Water Supply: Providing potable water to the JDF and, in emergency situations, to the civilian population through water purification and distribution systems.

• Power Generation: Generating and distributing electrical power to support JDF operations and, in disaster relief, critical civilian infrastructure.

• General Engineering Support: Providing a range of other engineering services, including surveying, mapping, and the operation of heavy equipment.

The 1st Engineer Regiment plays a crucial role in both the defense of Jamaica and in national development and disaster response efforts. Its personnel are trained in a variety of engineering disciplines, enabling them to effectively respond to a wide range of challenges.
