Lombard (band)
Lombard was a Polish hard rock and heavy metal band formed in 1981 in Poznań, Poland. The group was initially led by vocalist Wanda Kwietniewska and guitarist Grzegorz Stróżniak, who was also the primary composer and keyboardist. Lombard quickly gained popularity in Poland, becoming one of the most prominent and influential rock acts of the 1980s.
Their music often incorporated elements of progressive rock and symphonic rock alongside hard rock and heavy metal influences. Lyrical themes often revolved around social issues, personal struggles, and philosophical reflections.
The band's early albums, such as "Live" (1983) and "Szara Maść" (1984), are considered classics of Polish rock. "Szara Maść" (Grey Ointment) in particular achieved significant critical and commercial success, solidifying their position in the Polish music scene.
Over the years, Lombard underwent several lineup changes. Wanda Kwietniewska left the band in 1999 to pursue a solo career. Grzegorz Stróżniak continued to lead Lombard with various vocalists and musicians.
The band remains active, continuing to tour and release new music, although their most celebrated period is generally considered to be the 1980s with Kwietniewska as the lead vocalist. Lombard's impact on Polish rock music is undeniable, and they continue to be remembered for their powerful performances and socially conscious lyrics. Their songs are still frequently played on Polish radio stations.
