Cairo, Indiana
Cairo is an unincorporated community in Ohio Township, Harrison County, Indiana, United States. It is situated along the Ohio River, near the mouth of Indian Creek.
History
Cairo was platted in 1818. The name likely alludes to the ancient city of Cairo in Egypt, perhaps chosen with aspirations for its own future prominence as a river port. The community served as a steamboat landing and trading post in the 19th century.
