Fontibre

Fontibre is a small village located in the province of Palencia, in the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain. It is situated within the municipality of Campoo de Suso. Fontibre is best known as the traditional source of the Ebro River, one of the most important rivers in Spain. The name "Fontibre" is believed to derive from the Latin "Fontes Iberis," meaning "Sources of the Ebro." A visitor's center near the village commemorates the significance of the site. While considered the traditional source, debate exists about the actual precise origin of the Ebro, with some hydrologists suggesting other nearby springs or snowmelt contributing to its headwaters.
