Sylvester Norris (basketball)
Sylvester Norris (born March 5, 1957) is an American former professional basketball player. A 7'1" center, he played six seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Norris was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in the 3rd round (62nd overall) of the 1979 NBA draft, but did not play in the NBA until 1982. Prior to the NBA, he played in Italy for Virtus Bologna and Pallacanestro Reggiana.
He began his NBA career with the Houston Rockets, playing for them from 1982 to 1987. He was a reserve center, providing size and rebounding for the team. He was part of the Rockets team that reached the NBA Finals in 1986, losing to the Boston Celtics.
In 1987, Norris was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers, where he played one season before retiring from the NBA.
His brother, Steve Norris, also played in the NBA. Sylvester Norris was known for his size and rebounding ability, and for his contributions as a role player on the Rockets' 1980s teams. His NBA career totals include 1,270 points and 1,317 rebounds.
