Durango is a Home Rule Municipality that is the county seat and the most populous municipality of La Plata County, Colorado, United States. Located in southwestern Colorado, it is situated along the Animas River and is a gateway to the San Juan Mountains.

History:

Founded in 1880 by the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, Durango initially served as a transportation hub for mining operations in the San Juan Mountains.
