Susan Johnson (bishop)

Susan Johnson is a retired bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC). She served as the bishop of the Saskatchewan Synod from 2001 to 2007, and as the national bishop of the ELCIC from 2007 to 2016.

Johnson was the first woman to serve as national bishop in the ELCIC. Prior to her election as national bishop, she served as pastor in several congregations in Saskatchewan.

As national bishop, Johnson played a prominent role in ecumenical dialogues and interfaith relations. She advocated for social justice issues, including Indigenous rights and environmental stewardship. She also oversaw the implementation of various initiatives within the ELCIC, focusing on congregational development, leadership formation, and global mission.

Since retiring as national bishop, Johnson has remained active in various church and community initiatives.
