Norman Chaney

Norman Chaney (October 18, 1914 – May 29, 1936) was an American child actor, best known for his role as "Chubby" in the Our Gang (Little Rascals) short films from 1922 to 1924.

Chaney replaced Joe Cobb in the series, bringing a new, heavier-set character to the group of child performers. His appearance, coupled with his easy-going personality, quickly made him a popular member of the cast. He starred in approximately 19 Our Gang shorts during his tenure.

After leaving Our Gang, Chaney faced challenges due to his increasing weight and health issues. He struggled to find work in show business and reportedly returned to his native Baltimore. He underwent weight-loss surgery, which was relatively experimental at the time. Tragically, Chaney died at the young age of 21 from myocarditis, complicated by his history of obesity. He is often remembered as a significant contributor to the early success and popularity of the Our Gang comedy series.
