John Eyre (1665–1715)

John Eyre (1665–1715) was an English lawyer and Member of Parliament. Born in Wiltshire, he was the son of Giles Eyre, a prominent judge, and Jane Snelgrove. He was educated at Salisbury Cathedral School and subsequently matriculated at Wadham College, Oxford in 1681, and later studied law at Lincoln's Inn.

Eyre practiced law and established himself as a successful barrister. He held the position of Recorder of Salisbury, and served as a Member of Parliament for Downton from 1695 to 1698, and for Salisbury from 1701 to 1715.

He was appointed a bencher of Lincoln's Inn in 1703. He married Sarah, daughter of Sir Thomas Samwell, 1st Baronet, of Upton, Northamptonshire. He died in 1715 and was succeeded by his son, Samwell Eyre, who also served as a Member of Parliament. He is remembered as a respected legal figure and parliamentarian of his time.
