Xiang Chong (Water Margin)
Xiang Chong (項充) is a fictional character in the classical Chinese novel Water Margin (also known as Outlaws of the Marsh). He is one of the 36 Heavenly Spirits, and ranks 71st of the 108 Stars of Destiny. He is known as the "Eight Arm Arhat" (八臂哪吒).
Xiang Chong is depicted as a ferocious and unyielding warrior who fights alongside Li Gun (李衮). Both are skilled at fighting with rattan shields and flying knives. They are initially leaders of a bandit group operating around Mount Mangdang (芒碭山).
The pair are recruited into the Liangshan rebel band after their defeat by the Liangshan heroes. He initially serves under Fan Rui, another bandit leader who later also joins Liangshan. During the Liangshan campaigns, Xiang Chong and Li Gun are frequently deployed together, often forming a vanguard force known for their bravery and effectiveness in close combat.
After the Liangshan outlaws are granted amnesty by the imperial court, Xiang Chong participates in the campaigns against the Liao invaders and other rebel forces. He is killed in action during the campaign against Fang La, specifically at Muzhou (睦州). He is remembered as a loyal and fearless warrior.
