Silence (1926 film)
Silence is a 1926 American silent crime drama film directed by Rupert Julian and starring Laura La Plante, H. B. Warner, and Raymond Bloomer. The film is based on the play of the same name by Max Marcin.
The plot revolves around a young woman, Peg Riley (La Plante), who witnesses a murder committed by a powerful gangster, Jim Warren (Bloomer). To protect herself and her family, she vows to remain silent about what she saw, even when her silence implicates an innocent man, Police Officer Jim Mallory (Warner), in the crime.
The film explores themes of loyalty, justice, and the moral dilemmas faced by individuals caught between protecting themselves and upholding the law. It was known for its suspenseful storyline and La Plante's performance. While considered a well-regarded silent film of its time, Silence is now considered a lost film, with no known copies surviving.
