HMS Woolwich (F80)

HMS Woolwich (F80) was a Leander-class frigate of the Royal Navy. Commissioned in 1965 and decommissioned in 1993, she served primarily as a training ship for navigation and seamanship. She was the ninth Royal Navy vessel to bear the name Woolwich, which refers to the town in southeast London historically associated with shipbuilding and military activity.

Originally fitted with a single 4.5-inch gun forward and a GWS.22 Seacat missile system aft, Woolwich underwent a significant modernization refit between 1977 and 1980. This involved the removal of the Seacat system and the addition of Exocet anti-ship missiles and a new computerized action information system.

Throughout her career, Woolwich participated in various exercises and deployments, including service in the Mediterranean and Atlantic. Following her decommissioning, she was sold for scrap.
