Alvis plc
Alvis plc was a British manufacturer of armoured vehicles and military equipment. Originally established as an automobile manufacturer, Alvis Cars, in 1919, the company shifted its focus towards military production, particularly armoured vehicles, during and after World War II.
Throughout the latter half of the 20th century, Alvis plc became a prominent supplier to the British Army and other armed forces around the world. Their products included a range of armoured fighting vehicles, such as the Saracen armoured personnel carrier, the Saladin armoured car, and the Scorpion light tank. These vehicles saw service in numerous conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
In 2004, Alvis plc was acquired by BAE Systems, a major global defense, security, and aerospace company. Following the acquisition, Alvis's armoured vehicle production was integrated into BAE Systems Land Systems, effectively ending the Alvis name as an independent entity. While the Alvis brand is no longer actively used, many of the vehicles they produced continue to serve in various military forces globally. The legacy of Alvis lives on through the continuing support and upgrades provided to these vehicles by BAE Systems.
