Nemesis 2 (MSX)

Nemesis 2, also known as Gradius 2 in regions outside of Europe and Japan, is a horizontally scrolling shooter video game developed and published by Konami for the MSX home computer in 1987. It is a direct sequel to Nemesis, the MSX port of the original Gradius arcade game.

Nemesis 2 presents a darker, more atmospheric tone compared to its predecessor. The game retains the core gameplay mechanics of the Gradius series, involving controlling a spaceship (the Vic Viper) through various levels, shooting enemies and dodging obstacles. A key element is the "power meter," allowing players to customize their ship with various upgrades like speed increases, missiles, and lasers.

While sharing the basic gameplay loop with other Gradius titles, Nemesis 2 introduced some notable differences. One significant change was the inclusion of "Moai" head bosses at the end of levels, a recurring element in the Gradius franchise. The game's storyline is more emphasized than in the original Nemesis, depicting the Vic Viper's mission to destroy a massive alien fortress.

Nemesis 2 is considered a classic title on the MSX, praised for its challenging gameplay, improved graphics and sound compared to its predecessor, and overall quality as a home computer adaptation of the Gradius formula. It remains a popular game among retro gaming enthusiasts.
