Andrew Robinson (actor)

Andrew Robinson (born February 14, 1942) is an American actor best known for his portrayal of the villainous serial killer Larry Cotton in the horror film Hellraiser (1987), and as Elim Garak, the complex and morally ambiguous Cardassian tailor, in the television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993–1999).

Robinson began his acting career in the theatre, appearing in numerous stage productions before transitioning to film and television. His early film credits include Dirty Harry (1971) where he played the Scorpio Killer, and Charley Varrick (1973).

Despite often playing villains, Robinson has also portrayed heroic and sympathetic characters throughout his career. However, his villainous roles, especially Garak, are what he is most recognized for.

Beyond acting, Robinson has also written several books, including A Stitch in Time, a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine novel focusing on the backstory and internal motivations of his character, Elim Garak. He also taught acting at the University of Southern California.
