Campion (1989 TV series)

Campion is a British mystery television series that aired in 1989 and 1990. It is based on the Albert Campion detective novels written by Margery Allingham. The series stars Peter Davison as Albert Campion, a witty and enigmatic gentleman detective.

The series adapted four of Allingham's novels into individual two- or three-part stories: The Case of the Late Pig (adapted from the novel of the same name), Death of a Ghost (adapted from the novel of the same name), Flowers for the Judge (adapted from the novel of the same name), and Dancers in Mourning (adapted from the novel of the same name).

Each story follows Campion as he investigates various crimes, often involving eccentric families, art circles, and espionage. His methods are unconventional, relying on observation, intuition, and a network of contacts, including his loyal manservant, Magersfontein Lugg (played by Brian Glover). The series is noted for its faithful adaptation of Allingham's novels, its atmospheric settings, and the performances of its cast. The stories are set in the interwar period, reflecting the time in which the original novels were written.
