West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine (UK Parliament constituency)
West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system of election.
The constituency was created in 1997, replacing much of the former Kincardine and Deeside constituency. It covers a largely rural area of Aberdeenshire, including towns such as Banchory, Westhill, Stonehaven and parts of the city of Aberdeen.
Historically, West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine has been a relatively marginal constituency, with both the Scottish National Party (SNP) and the Conservative party holding the seat at different times. The political landscape reflects the mix of rural and suburban communities within its boundaries.
The boundaries of the constituency have been reviewed and may be subject to change during periodic boundary reviews conducted by the Boundary Commission for Scotland. These reviews aim to ensure electoral equality by adjusting constituency sizes to reflect population changes. The current boundaries are defined based on local authority wards.
The Member of Parliament for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine is (as of October 2024) Andrew Bowie of the Conservative Party.
