William Semple (footballer)

William Semple (born c. 1870s, date of death unknown) was a Scottish footballer who played primarily as a right back.

Semple played for Renton and was part of the team that won the Scottish Cup in 1885 and 1888. He also played in the Renton side that defeated West Bromwich Albion in 1888 to become "World Champions". Details about the later portion of his career are sparse, however, he remained with Renton until the early 1890s. His career coincided with a significant period of success for Renton Football Club, a now-defunct club located in Renton, Dunbartonshire.
