All Aboard (musical)
All Aboard is a 1925 musical comedy with music by Walter Donaldson, lyrics by Otto Harbach, and a book by Fred Thompson and Jack Donahue. The story revolves around a young, wealthy man who disguises himself to win the affections of a young woman who disdains the idle rich. The musical premiered on Broadway at the 46th Street Theatre on April 5, 1925, and ran for 120 performances.
The plot involves Jimmy Dodge, the aforementioned wealthy man, working incognito as a waiter on a train. He falls in love with Dorothy Wren, a spirited young woman traveling cross-country. Misunderstandings and comical situations arise as Jimmy tries to win Dorothy's heart while keeping his true identity secret. Supporting characters include a variety of colorful passengers and crew members, adding to the light-hearted and farcical nature of the production.
Songs from All Aboard include "I'm Bringing Home a Baby Bumble Bee," "Maybe I Love You Too Much," and "Oh How I Long To Be With You." The show's original cast featured Oscar Shaw as Jimmy Dodge and Queenie Smith as Dorothy Wren. While All Aboard enjoyed a modest run, it isn't considered a major landmark in musical theatre history.
