USS Hull (DD-350)

The USS Hull (DD-350) was a Farragut-class destroyer in the United States Navy during World War II. Named for Commodore Isaac Hull, a hero of the War of 1812, she was laid down in 1932, launched in 1934, and commissioned in 1935.

Hull served primarily in the Pacific Fleet prior to World War II, participating in fleet exercises and training maneuvers. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, she was involved in escort duty and patrol operations.

The USS Hull was lost on 18 December 1944 during Typhoon Cobra, also known as "Halsey's Typhoon". Along with the destroyers USS Monaghan (DD-354) and USS Spence (DD-512), she capsized and sank due to the extreme conditions of the storm. The loss of life was significant, with only a handful of her crew surviving. The wreck of the Hull has never been found. The loss of the Hull and the other ships during Typhoon Cobra led to investigations and subsequent changes in naval weather forecasting and ship handling procedures during severe weather.
